Kim Barthel
Kim Barthel is an occupational therapist, speaker, multi-disciplinary teacher, mentor and best-selling author who is active in supporting people in many contexts globally. She is passionate about understanding complex behavior, neurobiology, trauma-sensitive practice, sensory processing, attachment, and mental health. An advanced NDT (Neuro-Developmental Treatment) instructor, Kim has 40+ years of practice in helping people to be their best selves. She is a contributor to a number of textbooks on Pediatric Occupational Therapy, NDT, and Trauma, and in 2019 Kim was honored to receive the Award of Merit from the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy. This seminar is intended for: psychologists, medical psychologists, education professionals, social workers, occupational therapists, child and adolescent psychiatrists, and other specialists working with children and families.
Certificates of participation will be issued, and the event is accredited on the competence platform METAS.
During this practical seminar, participants will:
Understand various types of trauma and their signs and symptoms relevant to the Lithuanian context;
Be able to assess the impact of trauma, its influence on brain development, relationship building, coping strategies, and behavior throughout life;
Recognize behavioral red flags, their complexity, and how they relate to neurodiversity;
Describe the connection between trauma, sensitivity, and sensory integration challenges;
Increase self-awareness and self-care.
